Your Dental Checkup

What to expect from your dental checkup

A check up at Cambridge Dental is designed to provide you with a clear cut view of everything that may be affecting your oral health. Whether the check is required to investigate a problem, or for routine reassurance and screening, it will always include the following actions:

  • A review of your general health and wellbeing
  • An examination of the lips, tongue and skin lining the mouth, in case of ulcers and to screen for early signs of systemic disease or cancer
  • Inspection of the gums and oral hygiene.
  • Examination of the teeth for cavities, cracks, wear and broken fillings

Why is screening important?

Routinely monitoring and screening these elements of oral health helps us to accurately find the source of any problem or pain you may be having. We can also use the information gathered to identify early signs of problems and implement effective prevention methods. Screening for oral dysfunction allows us to reduce the need for expensive, interventive treatments while protecting teeth, gums and jaw joints.

Overall, monitoring and screening your oral health reduces any ill-effects on your general health.

Dental care unique to you

Of course, each of our patients has their own individual requirements so in some cases, additional, more detailed tests and records may be required. These can include x-rays, photographs, and swallowing and chewing function tests. Whatever your situation, we'll make sure to cover your specific needs in your check-up, though any additional tests may be charged separately from the initial consultation fee.
