Gum care & stain removal

The Hygienists

Gum disease is one of the most common oral health concerns and if left untreated, will lead to bad breath, bleeding, gum recession, tooth sensitivity, mobility, and even, in its more severe forms, tooth loss.

At Cambridge Dental we believe in preventing dental disease, and a key part of that is undergoing routine cleaning with the hygienist to maintain a beautiful and healthy smile. The hygienist will remove harmful plaque (called a biofilm) on the teeth and gums, as well as hardened deposits, like tartar, below the gum line.

Our hygienists can offer a simple scale and polish. But they can also far more than that. Equipped with the latest technology and advanced training, they are almost gum care specialists in their own right, delivering an experience that is different from any other practice in Cambridge.

The Treatment Journey

Your visit will last between 30 and 60 mins. During this visit, the hygienist will discuss your oral hygiene routine in great detail, after which she will conduct a thorough assessment of your teeth and gums. She will go on to clean them very thoroughly, followed by a polish. She will complete the visit by giving you detailed instruction on how to improve your cleaning routine at home and demonstrating, prior to recommending the right cleaning aids. If you do suffer from advanced disease or have a large amount of debris built up on your teeth, she may recommend the cleaning is delivered over a number of visits to allow her to spend more time in each area of your mouth.

Stain Removal

Teeth can build up with stain due to dietary influences like tea, coffee, and red wine, as well as lifestyle habits like smoking. We are one of the few practices in the country that has an EMS Airflow machine that harnesses the latest cutting edge technology to remove stains effectively and most importantly, without damaging the enamel of your teeth.

FAQs

The only way to achieve the best gum health, it requires a combination of good daily cleaning at home where you can clean above the gums, and a thorough cleaning to remove the debris built up under the gums by a professional. If this debris is allowed to build up, over time it will lead to gum disease which may lead to tooth loss. By seeing the hygienist, we can help you ensure your gums remain in the best possible health.

No, you do not need to see our dentist before you can see the hygienist. You can directly access their services, which is ideal if your dental practice is unable to offer such services or if you are just looking for an altogether better experience. However, we know we can take much better care of your overall dental health is you do choose us to look after all of your dental needs because the clinicians can work together to deliver a better level of treatment.

Because we have access to the latest technology on the market, we have the ability to deliver a very elite level of cleaning and stain removal, that is unequal to anything in terms of both comfort and results that you have previously experienced.

Treatment is usually pain-free but the hygienist can help ease any discomfort you do feel with anaesthetic gel or injection. Our airflow machine is also designed to be one of the most comfortable technologies in the market, and has been proven to help us provide with treatment with no discomfort. It has often been described like a spa treatment for your mouth!

If your gums are generally healthy, we recommend you visit the hygienist every 6 months. If you have more advanced disease the hygienist may recommend a frequency of every 3-4 months.
