We start with an initial consultation to decide what the best system for you is. Once you have decided you want to go ahead, we scan your teeth to have custom-made lab trays constructed for you. At the second visit, the trays, along with the whitening gel and instructions are given to you and you can commence your course of whitening. If you go with the Enlighten system there will be an in-surgery session, which will be the third visit.

At the end of the whitening course, we will arrange a review to make sure you are happy with your results.

Although results tend to last many years, the brightness can show signs of fading over time, especially when exposed to certain lifestyle habits, like smoking and drinking red wine.

To prolong results indefinitely, we recommend you ‘top-up’ your whitening 1-2 times a year by obtaining a tube of whitening gel from us and using it for 3-5 days at home, in the same way as you would have done originally.

Whitening gel is a prescription cosmetic medication and can only be provided by a dental professional. It is approved by the government industry that regulates all medicines and in the concentration it has been approved for use, it is safe for your teeth and will not damage them. Any whitening gel bought over the internet or from a shop is not regulated in the same way and may damage your teeth or be too weak to have any effect.

The only side-effect you may experience from whitening is sensitivity. We can recommend things that will help reduce this sensitivity and it will only last for the duration you are doing the whitening.
